concept of a family teahouse
concept year: 2024
The 38 m² pavilion brings together a garden-facing tea room and a sauna oriented toward a plunge pool. An exposed timber framework envelops and partially conceals a rectangular volume of metal and glass. The rhythm of vertical posts and diagonal braces gives depth to the facades, filtering daylight and framing views. Raised above the ground, the deck extends the interior toward the surrounding vegetation, while a 34 m² rooftop terrace offers a retreat among the tree canopies.
Inside, timber flooring and ceiling finishes maintain continuity with the external framework. A low table and floor cushions create an intimate setting for the tea ritual, keeping the furnishings below the primary sightlines and allowing the garden to define the room. Generous glazing and the shifting shadows cast by the structure soften the boundary between inside and outside, connecting both the tea room and sauna to light, water, and the ever-changing landscape.
