concept of a family house
concept year: 2012
Set within the rural landscape of Ofena, Italy, this 90 m² residence emerges from an exploration of continuity between architecture, history and terrain. The restoration reinterprets the language of traditional stone construction, preserving its material presence while introducing a distinctly contemporary intervention.
A composition of rough-hewn local stone, sculptural concrete and expansive glazing gives the house its distinctive character. Deeply recessed, arched openings frame the surrounding landscape, transforming views into an integral part of the domestic experience. The building follows the natural slope of the site, allowing the landscape to flow over and around the architecture, with a planted roof softening the transition between built form and ground.
Rather than reproducing the past, the project establishes a dialogue between inherited material traditions and contemporary forms of inhabitation. The result is an architecture that feels both rooted in its context and distinctly of its time.
